Back in the Saddle Again...

So, I've been a little...lax...about posting the last several months. I'll chalk it up to being way too busy and having a crazy summer! But, now here we are...just days before the first day of school for my kiddos, and I've got the creating bug!

My creating has been greatly helped by the plethora (see, Miss Niemeyer, I'm using one of my high school AP spelling words from 15 or so years ago!) of awesome new products that came out at CHA Summer back in July. Isn't it funny how one sheet of patterned paper can be super inspiring. Maybe it's just me.

On my desk today are two cards that I'm planning to create with a group of ladies this weekend at a MemoryWorks home party.

These cards will teach the lovely ladies how to use the new Sew Easy tool, plus they'll learn how to cut and fold these adorable pinwheels (so easy!), and they both feature papers from the new Simple Stories Happy Day line, which is simply perfect for all the birthday projects you can imagine.

When I received my Destinations kit in my box from MemoryWorks, I knew I was going to use it to scrapbook a HUGE stack of photos from a trip we took to Disneyland last year. To be honest, I'd been dragging my feet on scrapbooking them because: a) I was overwhelmed by the huge stack, and b) I was kind of tired of having the same layouts from the same place (though I love Disneyland, we've been there at least 20 times in the last 10 years, so my layouts from there are starting to feel "the same").

So, I was super excited to be able to scrapbook them using the Simple Stories idea - simply cut out the elements and slide them in page protectors with your photos! I love that you can get a ton of photos in this way, while still being fun and creative, but QUICK! Becuase I have a lot of 12x12 layouts already from previous trips, I decided to create a mini-album so my kids could easily look at the pictures and I could easily share it with friends and family.

I purchased a little 4x6 "slide-in" style photo album at Target. It was baby themed and on the clearance aisle for .75! SCORE! I took out the baby-themed inserts and I had a blank canvas to create with! Here's the album I created using the Destinations Kit, alphabet stickers, element stickers, ribbon, and some Lillybee alphabet stickers, and ZVA Bling. I journaled using the American Crafts pen in Black...and DONE. Took me 1 hour...from start to finish.

Just an update...

Wow! I'm feeling so honored! Cindy Tobey from Fancy Pants Designs contacted me to share my "Addie" bath layout (from my last post) on their blog later in February. Very cool! One of my most favorite scrapbooking manufacturers!!!

And, I'm going to be posting on "Inspiration Fridays" this month over on the MemoryWorks blog. Go check it out! My first post (with some sneak peeks of some very Valentinesy projects) will be up tomorrow morning on the blog...

And, I may be participating as a vendor in a "Sober grad" fundraiser crop in Folsom, CA on March 12th. I'll post more details when I know more.

Getting Caught Up...

Happy New Year!

You know how it is when you don't see a friend for awhile...and, you want to get caught up...but it's hard to figure out where you left off? Or, where to begin? That's how I'm feeling about my blog today. So, since it's a new year, I decided to start with another new blog "look". I'm a visual person, so that helps get me started. What do you think of the new look?

So, what have I been up to? Well, for starters I began a new part time job back in September at the AWESOME Green Tangerines in Rocklin, CA. No, it's not a salad bar (yes, met a customer who actually had thought it was like a Fresh Choice...lol). It's a gorgeous, fresh, modern, beautiful paper-crafting store FULL of scrappy goodness. Check out their website here. I was a guest blogger on their blog last month, showcasing a December Daily album I created. Check out some of that album here:

So, does that mean I'm no longer a MemoryWorks consultant? Au contraire, mon cheri. I'm taking a little break from offering "parties" or "crops" and really just focusing on creating for awhile. But, they have an awesome consultant program which gives me the option to just be a hobbyist for bit with no ordering minimums. It's OK. But, I'm still placing occasional group orders here and there for my local customers (okay, yes, and me...!) And, I was honored to be selected to join the 2011 MemoryWorks TeamWorks Design Team, so I'll be enjoying creating more scrappy goodness using the awesome MemoryWorks and Simple Stories product lines throughout the year!

And, that means I have more time to create, and share what "scrappy goodness" I'm doing. So, stay tuned!

Today, I want to share a practical, fun use for the new Simple Stories ele.ment.ary line from MemoryWorks (available from your favorite MemoryWorks consultant...like me!). I altered a cork bulletin board to be a "home" for our school papers, lunch money, school calendar, etc, in our home office:

First, I painted the wooden border with Ranger Distress Paint (I used the color scattered straw). Love the crackled look this paint provides! Then, I trimmed some of the patterned papers from the kit to fit as a border on the left side of the board. I added some journaling jots and stickers with pop dots, and created some 'headers' for my board to keep it organized.

To keep the alphabet letters from coming off over time (with the extra abuse they'll probably get on the board) I added Ranger Glossy Accents over the top. Love how this gives it a fun, shiny look, too.

I also jazzed up the plain pushpins that came with my cork board by tieing some of the adorable polka-dot Simple Stories ribbon in a double-knot.

And last, I added an envelope for lunch money so we can always have it in the same spot (and not lose it after payday!)

I love that this kit provides a bright, fun, vibrant look for all my school projects - from my own 'vintage' elementary school photos, to the easy Simple Stories album with divided page protectors, to altered projects like this.

Getting inspired...

I've had a fun summer. Albeit, I'm exhausted and sooo ready for my kiddos to get "back to school"...but, it's still been fun. I'll have lots of fun summer photos to play with...since I haven't been doing all that much scrapbooking. And that's okay.

This past week I took a trip with my family to the beach. Lovely little town on the Central CA Coast. Lots of fun little shops and artsy places. Fun to explore. And, oh, so inspiring. Makes me want to create! I came home with vintage buttons and old postcards from the local antique stores and French Ribbon and twine from a favorite store.

So, I came home from my trip and was ready to play with paper and scissors. Of course, the massive laundry piles and unpacking have gotten in the way...but, I had some time to create last night. One of the MemoryWorks TeamWorks members posted an awesome sketch challenge on her blog which got me on a roll. Here's the layout I created using the Crate Paper Mia collection (was part of the February 2010 MemoryWorks Express kit):

I started today thinking..."is it September yet?" It was the first full day of my kids all being home during the week for summer break and wow...they have some adjusting to do. But, then again, so do I. I decided to give myself a "mommy-time-out" during the youngest one's nap time and do a little creating...

Welcome MemoryWorks Blog Hoppers!! So glad to have you stop by my blog today!

First, a quick little project idea for you...

I love gift-giving. In fact, I've been told by many-a-friend that it's my "spiritual gift"...ha ha. But, I have a pet peeve about gift-giving...especially when using a gift bag. I HATE when my card gets seperated from my gift (lost)! An easy way to help prevent this is to attach your card to the gift bag using a paper clip or clothes pin. Now, that sounds kind of boring, so perhaps you could dress it up a bit!

I used two of the adorable polka-dotted flowers from one of our Petaloo Daisy Boxes plus two of the pre-beaded flower-centers, four memory book glue dots, and a big paper clip to create this lovely little clip...

Just add a glue dot to the back center of each flower, then sandwich the paper clip between the two. Use two more glue dots to adhere the beaded center and you're done!

Why stop there, though? You can use these great big flowers to create adorable magnets, too. I purchased a set of five magnets at the Dollar Store and simply adhered one of the flowers (and centers) to the front. You could make a whole set and give them as a little gift.

These flowers are also wonderful additions to cards and scrapbook pages. Or, check out these Mulberry flowers (which coordinate oh-so-nicely with our Simple Stories line). They would be super cute with buttons or some "bling"in the center, too.

Or, use this idea with any flowers in your stash of supplies!

PageMaps Sketch Layout

Have I mentioned lately how much I love PageMaps? The sketches on that website make scrapbooking design soooo much easier. It's like following a recipe. And, just like in cooking you can add a little something here, and change a little something there...to make it your own!

I created this layout: "Sweet 1st Christmas" for a layout contest they're currently having using this sketch...

I made my version a two-pager because I had 4x6 photos to work with and couldn't bear to cut them down any more.

Check out the sketch contest here. I used a kit I've had on my shelf awhile...the MemoryWorks Express Kit from December 2008! I have used this kit for a ton of projects and love it! The paper is from My Mind's Eye Be Merry line. I also used American Crafts Thickers, Doodlebug rubons letters, and a Creative Cafe tag.

Lots Going On!

I was just looking at my calendar realizing that May has become a crazy month for my family...the end of school activities, little league in full "swing", my anniversary (13 years this year!), my daughter's birthday (her 1st this year!), two nephews and one niece's birthday, and oh yeah...just "life" in general! Not a lot of scrapbooking happens when my calendar is like that.

I'm always looking for ways and time to be a little creative, though (Mom needs her creative outlet or will go completely nuts)... One way I save time and get some pages done, is by using divided page protectors to scrapbook LOTS of pictures at once. Check out a post I wrote on the main MemoryWorks website for some tips and ideas on those.

During Memorial Day weekend at the end of May I'll be participating in a very fun MemoryWorks consultant blog hop...I hope you'll subscribe to my blog and participate! There will be fun giveaways at all of the blogs and much more! Stay tuned for more info!

Before then, it's MOTHER'S Day! This year I had the fun of picking out my own present...a new Droid by Motorola phone...I LOVE IT SO MUCH! :) Gives me something to play with while I'm sitting around waiting at bus stops and during long little league practices... :)

But, since it's really about honoring the mothers/women in our lives I sat down to create some "paper love" for some of my family. Here's a couple cards with little pockets for sharing photos that you can easily create!!! I made both of these using scraps from a former line from Cosmo Cricket (Honey Pie)...I find that making multiple cards at the same time is a great way to use up scraps and easier because I can use the same color embellishments, etc. What scraps are in your stash that you can use to make some cards?

(the inside...it's folded from one 12x12 sheet of cardstock. See how here) I'm in love with the ZVA pearls flourish on this card...there's still some patterns on clearance right now through MemoryWorks!

And, an even simpler card...

This card is 4.25"x5.5" when folded (it's a piece of cream cardstock that's cut to 5.5"x8.5", then folded in half). On the front of the card I used Dark Brown Colorbox Chalk ink to stamp a swirl corner stamp (from Fancy Pants). Then, I cut a strip of patterned cardstock 6"x4.25" and simply folded it in half, then adhered it on the sides and at the half-fold to create a pocket to slip photos into. I cut a strip 1"x8.5" and then punched using the Apron Lace border punch. I used glue dots to adhere some flowers and I stamped a flower center using the Fiskars: Wishes all Around clear stamps we carry through MemoryWorks.

Spring Delight...

The March 2010 MemoryWorks Express Kit has the PERFECT name...it IS a DELIGHT!

After being teased by beautiful spring-like sunshine the last several days I woke up this morning to a dreary grey wet drippy rainy day...bleh. But, I opened up my UPS-delivered box from MemoryWorks and seriously, it was like Spring came to my house. :)

I had some serious fun creating this with it... Last night I was browsing through the latest issue of Scrapbook's Etc. magazine and found a wonderful article about making your own paper flowers from patterned papers, punches, etc. (Love that magazine!) It was my inspiration for the topiary.

And then I made this and this... Hoping to have more time to play with the kit later tonight...

Capturing 2010 with Simple Stories: Life Documented Collection

I'm so excited to introduce the new Simple Stories Life Documented Collection from MemoryWorks! I've been enjoying the new collection and am absolutely in love with this style of scrapbooking. It's SO easy, looks great, and is giving me a stress-free way to scrapbook about our family memories in 2010! PLUS, it's only $16.99!!

I have my 2010 album more than half way done after only working on it for about 30 minutes!! Yes, this year's album! I'll complete the album by selecting my 10 or so favorite photos each month and sliding them in the slots in the We R MemoryKeepers page protectors (which are included with the kit). I've decided to keep it EXTRA simple by only using 4x6 photos for this, but you can use any of the included page protectors or purchase additional ones with other photo slot sizes.

Remember, it's a WORK IN PROGRESS...I'll complete it throughout 2010.

So far, I used my Fiskars paper trimmer and easily cut the 12 month cardstock journaling cards out, and slid them each in a page protector page. I also used the journaling cards to create a fun cover page for our 2010 album. I included 4x6 red Prism cardstock blocks on the cover page for now, but imagine I'll add more family photos on the cover page throughout the year.

An awesome feature of the journaling cards is that they're not only printed on heavyweight acid-free cardstock, but they're also DOUBLESIDED. I love every single design and pattern of the included journaling cards and love how they coordinate to create journaling blocks within my album...and I get to use both sides because you can see through the page protectors!

Now, I'll just add journaling and photos each month, then embellish with the beautiful cardstock stickers or included downloadable elements. I can also add 12x12 scrapbook pages or any additional pages into the album as I go - in case I want to highlight special events or add memorabilia in the pockets throughout the year.

The kit comes with 12x12 printed cardstock sheets that coordinate - just for that purpose! Or, you can cut and use them as elements within the page protector slots in place of a photo. That's the beauty of using a D-Ring (3-Ring) album instead of a post-bound album. It gives you the flexibility to easily add and move things around where a post-bound would be more challenging! I'm excited that this system will help me narrow down the photos I'm printing (saving me $$ on printing), but will allow me to tell the monthly stories of our family. After doing the Creating Keepsakes Project 365 kit last year, I was looking for a simpler (and honestly, better designed) way to quickly capture our memories, and I've found it! And, if I want to include more photos than just 10 or so a month, I'll just add more page protectors! I can also add a dvd in one of the slots each month with additional photo files!

I also love that I can store the unused kit elements right in my album in the 12x12 page protectors so they're on hand when I'm ready to add to my album! This way I can take it to a crop with a paper trimmer and pen - and that's IT!

All in all, this kit is an amazing, scrapbook mind-set altering experience! It will change the way you scrapbook - making it much more stress-free to capture your year-long memories.

Simple Stories..

Well, I've proven that being busy takes time away from important things we want to do...like keeping up with our blogs. :) But, being busy also means we're living life - making memories - having experiences. And, that is the stuff I want to capture. I want to recall those memories years ahead. Journaling in my scrapbook helps me do that. Decorating them helps give me a creative outlet. But, not everyone feels "creative". Not everyone has time, either. This is why I'm so excited about the new Simple Stories program coming from MemoryWorks.

Class Previews: MemoryWorks Retreat June 18-20th

I think I get the award for blog-posting-slacker! :) But, here I am...so let's get going!

I was inspired to post today when I received some Sneak Peeks of some of the classes that will be available at the MemoryWorks Retreat coming up June 18-20th at the Davis Conference Center in Layton, UT (Just north of Salt Lake City). This retreat is open to ANYONE who loves to scrap...or is even new to scrapping! You HAVE to check it out. I attended last year's retreat and it was simply FABULOUS. Hard to imagine, but this year looks even BETTER. You know it was good when I've been seriously researching going...with a NEWBORN. Doesn't look like it's gonna work out for me (she'll only be a few weeks old and traveling via plane or in the car for 11 hours doesn't seem very reasonable). If not for that, I'd SO be there.

A New Year

Wow - it's 2009!! Hard to believe it's here and already 2 days have passed! I'm excited about this year and all that's to come.

Some exciting news for my family - we're expecting!! I'm due May 28, 2009 - and we'll find out next week (Jan 7th) if it's a boy or a girl! Lots of pregnancy and baby scrapbook layouts to come... :)

Also, I hadn't officially announced it yet - but I have been accepted as a member of the new TeamWorks design team with MemoryWorks! As a design team member I'll be creating sample projects to share using MemoryWorks products and I'll also be helping other consultants with their business. I'm excited about this great opportunity! I'll be posting projects on the MemoryWorks Idea Gallery and they'll occasionally show up on the "Inspiration" page on the website, as well.

I'm also thrilled to be part of the Green Tangerines Design Team! Green Tangerines is a local store in Rocklin, CA. If you're in the Sacramento, Roseville, Rocklin area or if you want to visit an AWESOME store - come check it out!

CountDown to Christmas - No Stress Allowed

The holiday season is upon us!! There's only 16 more days until Christmas!!! So, it's not only coming up...it's HERE! This season has been crazy for my family - partially because of all the November birthdays in our family, but also because I'm pregnant with my third child! I'm due in May 2008 and it's been wonderfully exciting, but also exhausting!

So, I've decided to cut myself some slack this year and I invite you to do the same. I actually bought boxed Christmas cards this year to send out. Some of you may *gasp* when you hear that I'm not hand-making them - as it has been my tradition to create each one for several years now. I certainly have enough supplies around to make them. :) But, I decided that this time I would hand-make other things. As I have time, or as I watch my favorite Christmas movies and wrap presents, I'm planning to hand-make some small gift tags. They're tiny, quick, and fun to make. I'll post some for ideas when I get them made. And, I've been on a knitting kick lately, so I'm hand-making some scarves for friends who would like them. And, I'm probably going to make a bunch of cookies (because, quite frankly, they sound good to me!).

But, I'm not stressin'. I've made it my resolution to stop, slow down, and enjoy Christmas. I want to get back to basics and appreciate the true reason for the season - instead of getting caught up in the frenzy. Will you join me?

Fall is here!!!

Okay, so I know that Fall isn't officially until Sept 22nd, but there's starting to be a cool tinge in the mornings that tells me it's coming! I love Fall. Not only is my birthday in Fall (November), but it's cooler, more colorful, and the start of the holiday season (which I love)! I'm scouting out the boxes in my garage already to begin pulling out my pumpkins and leaves and fall wreaths and already planning our trip(s) to the pumpkin patches near by. If you live near Roseville or Rocklin, CA, a great place to visit this time of year is the Bishop Pumpkin Farm.

Fall gets me back into the scrapbooking mood, too. The last few weeks of summer and with school starting I've so busy that I just haven't felt like scrapping when I had a spare moment. But, there's something about the cool mornings and evenings that makes me want to make a cup of hot chocolate and create something! :)

Destination Disneyland Project

Finally, I got around to making something to hold a bunch of memorabilia from a recent trip my family took to Disneyland...

I wish I'd kept brochures, tickets, etc, from when I visited Disneyland (among other places) when I was younger (in the 1970's-1980's). But, now I can enjoy looking at the items from 2008 in 30 years from now...

I made this album using the very cool Cosmo Cricket 6"x8" Ethan Blackboard album.

Ideas to note: I made the memorabilia pockets by cutting the 12"x12" Doodlebug paper in half - to 6"x12" and wrapping it around the blackboard page. I adhered it on the bottom of the pocket only and then on the back of each page. I covered the seam on the back side of the page with pictures and memorabilia. Also, I punched holes in and included memorabilia right into the 3 rings of the album...and used the back sides of some (like the key card holder you get at the hotel) to add more photos and journaling.

It's an easy way to stuff lots of little papers, brochures, etc. in...give it a try!

A fun open house!

It was great to see some of my friends and customers today at my MemoryWorks open house. I know it's kind of a drive out here to "Crawford Acre", but it was nice to see everyone! Kelly G. won the "Mystery Hostess" prize - a $15 product credit - randomly chosen my my hubby out of all the orders placed. Very fun! I love giving away free stuff when I can!

As you can see, I changed the format of my blog, yet again. I'm trying to find the "perfect layout"...probably will never happen. :) But, I'm hoping to get some time to play with it more and make it much more personalized in the near future! Also, I'm wanting to post some project photos and update my idea gallery. Coming soon... :)

In Awe of....

...my brother's photography. You've gotta check this out... my brother, Jerry Dodrill, is an accomplished photographer. He had a gallery in Bodega, CA, but just got sick of being tied down to it and recently closed that chapter in his life. He is now doing special assignments all over the Sierras & Napa Valley, teaching workshops, climbing, communing with nature. I'm in awe of his mastery at capturing color and nature and making me want to climb right up into his photographs to experience the peace and serenity of the places he goes. Back from the Retreat...

Whew. I'm back from Utah and a little behind on updating my blog! I'm having a MemoryWorks Summer Open House at my home this Saturday, July 12th, and I'm busy preparing!

One really cool thing from the retreat was meeting the owner of Basic Grey, Becky Fleck. She is really neat and also just authored a great book called Page Maps. It's basically a book full of sketches or recipes to make scrapbook pages. So great for ideas when you're stumped on the design of a page. The BEST part is that she has a website FULL of FREE sketches that you can use anytime. And, they're for various sized pages or cards or...you name it. Check it out at www.pagemaps.com You'll want to bookmark it, for sure!

I also had the privilege of meeting Stacy Julian, the founder of Simple Scrapbooks Magazine and author of the new book, "Photo Freedom". She did a presentation about organizing your entire "scrapbooking" system from taking the photos to printing to scrapbooking with them to storing them. I'd highly recommend this book as it's full of ideas for how to organize your system! I'm starting to follow some of her recommendations for photo storage (like putting your pictures in the 3-ring 3-up Photo albums when you get them printed, so you can see them and share them right away)...and I'm loving the results already!

Off to the MemoryWorks Retreat!!!

I can't wait!!! I'm headed to Utah next week for the 1st ever MemoryWorks Scrapbook Retreat from June 19-22. It's a long roadtrip, but I'm looking forward to the open road with my friend Mary and no kids or hubby (though a trip like that with them could be fun, too)! The great news is that the retreat is filled to the brim with workshops from my favorite scrapbook companies carried by MemoryWorks...Scenic Route, Basic Grey, Fancy Pants Designs, My Mind's Eye, We R Memory Keepers, and more!! The best part is that I'll be bringing home lots of completed projects to share with everyone!

I'm planning to have a "New Catalog Open House" at my home on Saturday, July 12th to showcase the great new products in the new MemoryWorks Catalog and to share some of the fun ideas I learn at the retreat! It's HERE!!! The 2008/2009 MemoryWorks Catalog is now available for download on the main MemoryWorks site. Check it out here. (It's a .pdf file, so you need Adobe Acrobat to view it).

I'm so excited about the new product lines we're carrying...Jenni Bowlin, Creative Imaginations, Dream Street, Chatterbox, Doodlebug Designs...to name a few. And, our "old" favorites are there...Basic Grey, Crate Paper, Cosmo Cricket, 7 Gypsies, Pebbles, Inc.,...the list goes on!!

I love how the new catalog really showcases the beautiful theme sets and paper lines - you can see examples of each piece of each kit! And, you can see all the elements that coordinate...all on one page! Also, this year you'll notice that the catalog has page number references to other things that may coordinate with the products you're viewing. Mini Album/Card for Papa

I got the new Fancy Pants: Papa Cards that just came out (now available from MemoryWorks) and knew they'd be perfect for creating something for the guys in my life. It comes as one sheet of 12"X12" double-sided cardstock. (The back is a distressed red color). You simply cut out the "cards" you want to use and apply to your project with adhesive.

I made this little 3"x4.25" accordian album/card for my Grandpa's birthday (which is today...) It literally took me about an hour to pull it all together (including finding, sizing, and printing my photos, and cutting the cardstock, folding and gluing). Super easy. I just cut two strips of cream colored cardstock (4.25"x12"), then scored every 3" and folded accordian-style. I glued the last flap of one to the front flap of the next strip to make the little book and I decorated with the Papa Cards, stamps, and I mounted the small pictures of random scraps of cardstock I had left over from other projects. I LOVE using up scraps! :) I love that the cards were only $1.00 and I have lots left over to use on other cards, layouts, or whatever!

These cards by Fancy Pants also come in an adorable Sweet Spring theme that would be awesome for making something similar in a more feminine style!

All Things New...

I just love spring! Of course, living in California it seems like spring always comes early. Really it just means the end of fog and the beginning of sunshine-filled days. We usually have bulbs coming up in January and February and this year was no exception. The trees even started budding out in February! It's crazy that Easter is so early this year...was shocked to realize that it's THIS weekend already!!! Wasn't it just Christmas-time? I guess time flies when you're having fun. I love Easter and Springtime because they remind me of 'all things new'.

This year, I'm trying to stop and capture the newness around me. Seeing all the little new things that my 2 year old is doing, snapping pictures of the flower blossoms, making sure to get pictures of the new things I want to remember. I even started a new hobby...yes, I know...like I needed something more than scrapbooking....but I've recently learned how to knit and I'm loving it! I just got pictures back that I took of my first knitting project (a scarf for my 6 year old) - can't wait to scrapbook about it!

Speaking of "all things new"...the new MemoryWorks 2008/2009 Catalog is coming! I love shopping and looking online at scrapbook stuff...that's no secret if you've read my previous posts... It's fun to see all the new lines coming out from my favorite companies like Cosmo Cricket, Crate Paper, Basic Grey, Fancy Pants Designs and others. Seems like there's more available each week. I'm loving MemoryWorks because they get many of these items in 'early' while other websites still have them up as pre-order only. And, there's more to come. At the end of April the catalog will officially be released and there will be even more things out!

Valentine's Day Project

I've been having fun this week creating little things here and there while it's raining outside... Just finished a little mailbox for 'love notes'...

I found the small red tin mailbox in the dollar bins at Target (love those bins)...

I used:

-Cosmo Cricket: Chipboard letters (their Be Good line) and patterned papers from the Hey Sugar line

-The felt heart was from the 'Tis the Season felt shapes set by Fancy Pants designs (we're out of these now, but these Valentine's ones would work

-A red button from one of the Autumn Leaves sets

-American Crafts Ginger alphabet rubons

-Basic Grey: Sentiments rubons (for the top of the flag)

-Pebbles Inc: pink paint from the pastels paint set for the flag

I adhered the patterned papers to the box with matte finish Mod Podge (which I bought at a craft store). I traced the lids on the back of the patterned paper, cut them out and adhered. I painted the flag - then when dry I applied the 'forever' rubon (the other side says "love always"). Then I coated the flag in mod podge to seal it. I adhered the felt heart and button with glue dots and the chipboard letters with the Tombow clear glue adhesive. Was a quick, fun little project! Would be fun to fill with chocolate or some other goodies and give as a gift...!

Mid-January?!

It's been several weeks since I last sat down to work on my blog. Found this new template and like it better...wish I had the time to learn how to create my own from scratch and make it 'mine'...but this will do for now.

I'm really hoping to get some projects scanned in soon to share some of the fun things I've been making lately. My hubby got me a Canon Digital Rebel xti camera for Christmas (story there...it's formerly my brother's camera...check out his AMAZING photography at http://www.jerrydodrill.com/ - he's truly an amazing artist and photographer) so I've been taking a TON of pictures lately. I'm also hoping to get my 'catalog' of classes going so that I can get back to doing mini-classes/parties (MemoryWorks events) this Spring. Stay tuned for more coming soon...

Cousins Mini-Album Project Idea

These pictures make me happy...because they mean that I'm FINALLY DONE with a project I wanted to do for my kids and nieces and nephews this Christmas (luckily we're not celebrating until the 30th so I have time to wrap them). :)

I used the We R Memory Keepers Raw chipboard albums (3"x3") and the Piggy Tales "Chicken Little" Collection and "Jack & Jill" collection to make these little albums...I included a 2"x2" baby picture and current picture of each of the eight cousins on my husband's side of the family to make a "My Cousins & Me" book for each child. I also included their birthdays and full name (as I know that I have a hard time keeping track of everyone's birthday and middle names and thought it would be fun for them to have). (Note that I blurred the names and birth years for the online protection of the kids - the books don't look like that in person). A great, fairly easy project!

Free Cosmo Cricket Journaling Cards Offer...

Wowsers...how is it already December 6th??? We went for a week to Disneyland last week (to celebrate my Dad's 60th birthday and my ...th birthday.)... We left right after Thanksgiving and were immersed in the glorious Disney "holiday" decorating for a whole week. I came home to a "naked" house...no Christmas lights, no Santas, no nativity, and no tree...it seemed so....bare. So, I embarked on a whirlwind of decorating...pulled all the boxes up from the garage (we have a detached garage and it's down a hill...pulling 15 plastic tubs up the hill was a challenge. My poor hubby has been slammed with work and his Master's program, so it was all up to me this year - normally he gets to brave the garage and getting them all down. Luckily, I got smart and loaded up the Ford Expedition...only took 3 trips....). We decided to wait on the tree until Sunday - so we can go as a family to the Snowy Peaks Christmas tree farm and get one - just isn't the same if we don't do that together, at least.

Now I've got my daughter's second birthday party on Saturday and need to get this mess cleaned up...! All that, and here I am online...surfing the scrapbook sites and dreaming about working on my Christmas cards and a whole list of other projects I want to do...I've kind of always been a procrastinator at heart - work best 'under pressure'...

Speaking of "under pressure" - the founder of MemoryWorks, Amber Crowell, wrote a great article with some fun and easy project ideas using products MemoryWorks sells...I love her idea of using the Cosmo Cricket journaling cards to make a mini-album!! SO awesome and will be SO easy! See her article here.

November 2007 MW Express Kit Project

I'm having fun today playing with the November 2007 MemoryWorks Express Kit! It includes an awesome 8x8 Clear Acrylic Pageframe. Basically, you just create an 8"x8" scrapbook page, back it with some chipboard, and slide it in. I added chipboard words and flourishes (also from the kit) to the outside of the frame. The only thing not from the kit is the 4x6 My Mind's Eye transparency (brown edges), but we got those in prior kits... I love that the paper and the chipboard was pre-glittered. Made it look so festive, and it was EASY. It literally took me 10 minutes to make this little project! There are still some of the kits left in the MemoryWorks Express kit section on the website. Okay, I better stop procrastinating and get back to making the placecards for Thanksgiving dinner... :)

How is this possible? I feel like I'm in shock that Thanksgiving is THIS WEEK!!!! I swear it was yesterday that I was in the pool doing parent/child swim lessons with Lauren (my 18 month old - at that time) and eating popcicles with Zach on the front porch?!?!?!?

I love years when Thanksgiving comes a little early, though - because it means the Christmas decorations can come out a little earlier... :) And, because my birthday falls the week of Thanksgiving usually (the 29th), it has always been a favorite holiday of mine, too (because as a kid we often celebrated my birthday the same day...hee hee). I appreciate Thanksgiving as a day of 'ushering in' the holidays - the beginning of my favorite time of year - a time when the wonder, awe, and joy around all the little things in life are so amplified (especially with little ones in the house). How can I NOT scrapbook that!!?? So, this week, I'm going to take pictures of the transformation of my house into Christmas-land, more pictures of me, my kids, and my hubby enjoying the "little things", and pictures of my family just enjoying time ...okay, and the yummy food...together. :) I don't know if I'll get around to actually scrapbooking the pictures this week...or next week...or until next year, but my goal is to at least write/journal my thoughts this week and put them in my day planner so that when I do - I won't have forgotten all those "little things".

I can already tell you that I'll be using one of the awesome theme sets MemoryWorks carries when I do scrapbook the holidays. The latest arrival is the new Fancy Pants: Holly Jolly Line! I LOVE all the colors. I love that it has PINK in it! (my daughter almost always wears pink and it can really throw me when I try to scrapbook with the traditional 'Christmas color' papers.). I love that I won't have to worry about that with this line of paper...pink AND red! Woohoo! I'm also loving that it's neutral enough that I'll be able to use it for non-Christmas pages, too!

Loving those Fall colors in the kit. Can't wait to see what all will be in this month's kit - I am intrigued by the mention of an acrylic altered project - those are soooo cool! They should release the list of everything in the kit around the 26th-30th (wow, that's next week already!). If you're interested in getting the kit at the subscriber price ($35 vs $40 for the 'leftover ones') let me know ASAP!

I just love Fall. I love the colors...never really was an orange fan, but lately I find it sneaking onto my scrapbook pages and even (gasp!) my wardrobe. My kids have been wearing orange a lot this fall... I may just have to get the Fancy Pants Harvest 12x12 felt set...I'm LOVING those colors!!!!

Halloween Daisy D's Album

I have to admit...I'm not a Halloween fan, really...I'm not into all the scary stuff. I do love seeing the little kids play and dress up, though, and love the "Fall Fun" aspects of the holiday. My kids love to dress up and I finally got around to making a little album of their costumes from over the years that I can easily add to over time.

I used the Daisy D's Halloween theme set and a 6x6 chipboard album I've had in my stash awhile. You could make it using album, really, but 6x6 is a great size for putting 4x6 photos on and making an album quickly! I painted the chipboard covers with Pebbles, Inc. black paint, then added papers from the Halloween theme set on the covers when the paint dried. I used small strips of ribbons from the Daisy D's "Treat Me" Collection to tie to the top of the spiral binding on the cover. To create continuity throughout the album, I used one of the great corner swirl stamps from the Fancy Pants "In My Words" 12x12 stamp set (I used the one on the top far left corner) on the white cardstock journaling blocks on every page. And, I used the two inside circles on the circle Coluzzle template to create the tiny circle tags for each page.

I also used:

-American Crafts black brads

-Prism cardstock in black, white and Papaya Puree

-American Crafts Fred alphabet rubons (for word "Costumes" on cover)

-ScrapWorks Black Glitter Chipboard letters for word "Costumes" on cover)

-American Crafts black alphabet cardstock stickers

Christmas Star Album Class

Get ready to get some holiday projects done early! Sign up to create this awesome Christmas Star Album!

The class will be held on Saturday, November 3rd! (Time tbd).
How much? Cost will be $20, and you can choose between a Pebbles Inc. Christmas kit (reds and greens, Christmas theme) or Pebbles, Inc. Snowy Days kit (blues, snowflakes theme) (so, you will have leftovers to play with), 6 sheets of 12x12 cardstock for the project, and added embellishments, plus instructions and measurements for making the album (so you can create more later using other papers on your own) and instructions for a mini-album version.

Here's a mini-version I made with 'leftovers' from the kit that you'll be able to make once you learn how to create the album:

Details about the project: The album is approx 6" tall and when folded open is approx 12" wide. You will need to bring a paper trimmer (if you have one) and your strongest adhesive with you. (I will have some available for purchase, as well). The completed project will hold several 3 1/2" x 5" photographs. It would make an excellent gift, or keep if for yourself to enjoy for years to come!

Well, I'm starting to transfer some of my projects from my MW Idea Gallery in preparation for opening this blog as my full-time idea gallery. Here's one of my newest layouts:

Proof that you can make 'boy' pages with 'girlie-ish' paper... and you can do a Halloween page without orange and black and scary stuff. :)

An idea to note: I used a sketch from a magazine to come up with the page layout. (From Creating Keepsakes Magazine, May 2006 issue, Jamie Waters). As you look through magazines, draw sketches of the pages you like and keep them in a little notebook or journal. Then, if you get stuck on how to layout your pages, just refer to your notebook for ideas!

Well, I decided to downgrade my website to the basic package and just do my blogging here. It's kinda fun! I'm going to post my idea gallery stuff on this site, effective 10/15/07. And, I'll share MemoryWorks news here, too. So, for awhile I'll continue to have my http://sadiescraps.memory-works.com site, it'll just look different than it has...less features.

Can't wait to add some pictures to this site and dress it up a little...but right now I need to go bake cookies for Zach's entire soccer team, finish cleaning house, and get all my displays ready for the Pre-Holiday MemoryWorks open house I'm having tomorrow. Enough time sitting in front of the computer... :)

This is a season...

Okay, so it's usually something I say when I'm having a tough time... "This is just a season. It will be over soon". That saying comes from the Bible. Ecclesiastes 3...

A Time for Everything

1 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.
9 What do people really get for all their hard work?
10 I have seen the burden God has placed on us all.
11 Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
12 So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can.
13 And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.

For some reason, these verses are really coming to my mind this week. I think it's because Zach is going through so much change with his new school, starting kindergarten, etc...which means so am I. :) This is a "season" in our lives that I really don't want to forget. I'm also thinking I want to create something using those verses to have on my wall...in my sight often to remember that God's in control of all things... What season are you in, or your family? Create a scrapbook page or altered project to share where you're at in life right now...today.

I scanned it using my EPSON Stylus PHOTO RX500 printer/scanner. Pretty cool. Then, I printed it onto another transparency... I'm planning to use it for a little calendar I'm making...I'll post it when I'm done.

Here it is. My entry into the 'blog' world. Scary. :)

Here I sit, drinking my first cup of coffee for the day and thinking about my MemoryWorks business. I'm really enjoying the company and the products and even the parties, etc, but I'm feeling guilty about some of the costs I'm not recouping (like the monthly website fee). The website they provide is gorgeous and includes extra features like a blog, and idea gallery. But, if I can do that here, for free...I should try that, I think.

So, we'll give it a whirl...I'll blog for a month and see what all this baby can do. Then, maybe I'll cancel my website. People will still be able to order and see everything on the main MemoryWorks site, anyway. Hmmm....
